Frequently Asked Questions About Our Garage Door Services in CT
What should I do to prepare for garage door service?
One of the biggest tokens of appreciation any contractor could receive is a clean and clear work space. Do not assume that a contractor only needs a few feet of clean space when working on a garage door. It's mounted in the front of the garage right? Well, yes. However the tracks of the door and the garage door opener are mounted well into the garage, minimum 7-8 feet. So we always ask the homeowner to please have all the cars out of the garage (we will never work with a car in the garage), along with any expensive items like four wheeler, lawn mowers, etc. We also ask that any small items be removed to the back of the garage to allow for clean working space of 8 feet from the front.
How long does a garage door service take?
We love when services go successfully fast and smooth. However not all of them do. A service of hardware replacement (such as rollers, pulleys, springs, etc) can take anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on how many parts are involved, how accessible the work space is, etc. A garage door opener installation takes about 2-3 hours and a garage door installation can take anywhere from 3-6 hours. So when you are setting appointments for such services it's best to make time for the worst case scenario.
Do I have to be home during the garage door services?
Many customers have trusted their home with us and that is the biggest compliment we have ever received. As great as that is, we do request that the homeowners do their best to be there during the services. Once service is complete, we go over with the customer what was done and show them old parts removed / new parts installed or help them work the new garage door opener and its functions. However, because we understand not all customers can take a day off from work, we do go over things over the phone, text, and email.
Do you work on weekends?
As a family owned and operated company we completely empathize with customers who cannot take a weekday off from work but also really want to be present during the service. So yes we do work on Saturdays but it has to be scheduled in advance.
How soon can you service/install?
Although our scheduling varies from peak season to non peak season, most of the time, if a door is in stock we can install within 1-2 weeks. If the door is a special order, it may take anywhere from 2-5 weeks. Smaller installations or services (such as openers or hardware replacement) are usually scheduled within a week. Emergency/Urgent garage door services are available.
What types of payment do you accept?
Our preferred method of payment is by Check. However we do accept all major credit cards (Amex, Visa, Mastercard, Discover), Cash, and Paypal.
When do you require payment for the services/installations?
For garage door installations we require 50% deposit and the remainder is collected upon completion. For all other services we collect full payment upon completion. You will receive a receipt for all of your payments via email, mail, or in person.
Do we charge for estimates?
All estimates are free of charge. When we come for estimates, regardless if it's for a new door, opener, or just a service, we always make our best recommendations and then move forward with whatever service you want. We never over sell our products and services. We make clear recommendations based on safety, door longevity, and proper mechanics.
Who will be showing up for estimates, services, and installations?
Rest assured we do not subcontract our work. Sam Coma, the owner of Absolute Garage Doors, is the main technician. If the job requires it, he will bring a helper.
